The Okapembambu School is the oldest and biggest mobile unit of the Ondao School, located in Opuwo. Mobile units are meant to reach isolated and semi nomadic communities’ kids and integrate them in the education circuit. Two “L” shaped classroom blocks with five classrooms each (one of those a double size classroom) and a house for Peace Corps volunteers are the first phase of a school campus that will include an admin block, hostel areas and ablution blocks. The classrooms are placed facing each other, creating a square space to lodge playing spaces, as well as reading and eating roofed benches. The inclusion of the community in the construction process empowers and creates a stronger bond between buildings and community, creating a communal space.
